Job Description

This position requires a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, client service abilities, and a commitment to safety to ensure the reliable operation and effectiveness of fire alarm, intrusion/alarm, video surveillance (CCTV) and access control systems in protecting life and property from fire and other hazards.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, inspect, test, and maintain various alarm and detection systems, including fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, heat detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as intrusion/burglar alarm, video surveillance (CCTV), and access control systems ensuring compliance with relevant codes and regulations, according to NFPA and local codes.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with alarm and detection systems, utilizing technical knowledge and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve problems promptly and efficiently.
  • Maintain accurate records of installation, maintenance, and repair activities, including documenting system configurations, test results, and service reports for reference and compliance purposes.
  • Provide excellent client service by communicating effectively with clients to understand their needs, address their concerns, and ensure their satisfaction with the performance and reliability of alarm and detection systems.
  • Respond to service calls in a timely manner and provide exceptional client service.
  • Train less experienced technicians and clients as necessary.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, codes, and regulations related to alarm and detection systems, ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with applicable requirements to maintain compliance and safety.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiency enhancements, and technology advancements to optimize the performance and effectiveness of alarm and detection systems and services.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, prioritizing the safety of oneself, colleagues, clients, and the general public while working on alarm and detection system installations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Accurately clock in and out on job sites and keep proper time records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems and/or low voltage security systems required; candidates with 5 or more years of experience may qualify for the Senior Technician level and the upper end of the pay range.
  • Hands-on experience with intrusion/burglar alarm, video surveillance (CCTV), and access control systems are strongly preferred; cross-trained candidates are eligible for the top of the pay range.
  • Must be reliable, dependable, and able to work a flexible schedule when conditions change, including reliable transportation to and from work and after-hours calls while on call.
  • Must be able to work safely in high areas, including man lifts, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, with at least two years of driving experience required to operate company vehicles.
  • Must have or be able to obtain licensing and/or certificates required in the life safety industry, including state or local jurisdiction licensing and equipment certifications.
  • Must be able to obtain NICET certification as time in the industry progresses.
  • Must have the ability to work safely and competently both independently and in teams on customer sites, taking direction from team leads and supervisors.
  • Must be able to operate Windows 10x, and test equipment to include multimeters, battery analyzers, frequency meters, decibel meters, and communicating devices.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or possess documentation authorizing legal employment in the United States.
  • Must be willing to pass a background check and drug screening.
