The Fire Technician (All Services) is a cross-trained technician responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of both fire alarm/detection systems and fire sprinkler systems in commercial and residential properties. This role combines technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and client service abilities required to protect life and property from fire and other hazards, ensuring all work is completed to NFPA standards and local code requirements.

Responsibilities:

• Install, inspect, test, and maintain fire alarm and detection systems — including smoke detectors, heat detectors, and carbon monoxide detectors — as well as fire sprinkler systems, ensuring compliance with NFPA and local codes.
• Install fire sprinkler systems according to project plans, blueprints, and specifications; assemble and secure pipes, valves, fittings, and other system components; and connect components to water supply lines and fire suppression equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot issues across both alarm/detection systems and fire sprinkler systems, utilizing technical knowledge and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve problems promptly and efficiently.
• Conduct service calls, system tests, and repairs across fire alarm and sprinkler systems, documenting any deficiencies identified during inspections.
• Program and validate operating systems according to client specifications using manufacturer’s codes.
• Maintain accurate records of installation, maintenance, and repair activities, including system configurations, test results, and service reports for reference and compliance purposes.
• Provide excellent client service by communicating effectively with clients to understand their needs, address their concerns, and ensure their satisfaction; respond to service calls in a timely manner.
• Train less experienced technicians and clients as necessary.
• Stay updated on industry standards, codes, and regulations related to fire alarm, detection, and sprinkler systems, ensuring all work is performed in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiency enhancements, and technology advancements to optimize the performance and effectiveness of systems and services.
• Adhere to safety protocols and procedures, prioritizing the safety of oneself, colleagues, clients, and the general public.
• Utilize a pre-planned schedule to ensure all work orders are completed in a timely manner.
• Accurately clock in and out on job sites and keep proper time records.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of combined experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm/detection systems and fire sprinkler systems.
• Familiarity with various types of fire sprinkler systems, including wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, and foam systems.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of NFPA codes (including NFPA 25 & 72) and local safety regulations.
• Must be reliable, dependable, and able to work a flexible schedule when conditions change, including reliable transportation to and from work and after-hours calls while on call.
• Must be able to work safely in high areas, including man lifts, ladders, and scaffolding.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record, with at least two years of driving experience required to operate company vehicles, meeting all insurance carrier requirements.
• Must have or be able to obtain licensing and/or certificates required in the life safety industry, including state or local jurisdiction licensing and equipment certifications (e.g., FASA/BASA, Testing and Inspecting of Fire Alarm Systems).
• Must be able to obtain NICET certification as time in the industry progresses.
• Ability to operate common tools of the trade, including a pipe threading machine, and test equipment such as multimeters, battery analyzers, frequency meters, decibel meters, and communicating devices.
• Must be able to operate Windows 10x.
• Must have the ability to work safely and competently both independently and in teams on client sites, taking direction from team leads and supervisors.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or possess documentation authorizing legal employment in the United States.
• Must be willing to pass a background check and drug screening.
